I often get asked about what equipment and software I use for streams, podcasts, and coding. Here's my most up-to-date list.

Software & Settings

Coding

Productivity, Desktop, & SaaS apps

Podcasts & Screencasts

  • I use Adobe Audition for podcasts; switched from Garage Band in 2020 and never looking back
  • Loopback is key for routing audio with podcasts, screencasts, and streams
  • Screenflow for recording and editing video
  • Gif Brewery for capturing GIFs
  • When I need to capture audio from other apps or web sites, Audio Hijack is simple and powerful

Streaming

  • I've streamed with OBS for years but as soon as the Mac client of StreamLabs OBS gets out of beta I'll probably switch
  • I use Restream to broadcast my streams to both YouTube and Twitch, so I use their desktop chat app during my streams
  • Even though we use Slab at work, I love Notion for taking and sharing notes

Hardware

I did write up a hefty post about my streaming and podcasting hardware, but I'll still cover the basics here and also list some non-streaming hardware.

At the office

On the road

  • A fancy battery thing that charges itself while it charges your devices but I can never remember the name
  • Bose QC35ii
  • Small iPad Pro

Non-computer gear

  • An old Goruck GR-1 Backpack from before they raised their prices all crazy
