Hey, friend!

Does it make sense when I say that 2025 has a lot of potential, even more than an average year, but I don't know exactly what that potential is?

I'm used to thinking of the potential of a new year as being "what I could choose to do in this arbitrary time period". If I do nothing, there's a sort of implied net evenness to the outcome. If I mess up, it turns out poorly. If I do great, it'll be great. A year is an entirely arbitrary concept, anyway, so assigning any value to it is silly. Right?

But 2025 has the vibes of a much bigger potential swing, for good and for bad. If we ignore the social and political outcomes likely from the upcoming presidency (at our peril, of course, but just for the sake of this email), just the business and financial outcomes alone are very unclear. Some people are convinced everything's on the upswing, as business owners look forward to business-friendly legislation. Others are hunkering down, worried about what socio-political unrest will do to their business.

Or what about just my personal life? I turned 40 at the end of last year. That means this is my year to show how I may have been out of shape at 40 but I really turned it around by 41! Look at that ripped dad!

Hell, some of this is probably just because 2025 has a very ... portentous energy? 2025. It just feels like we're in a Blade Runner movie or something.

It's probably all silly. It's probably just one more year. But I'm having a really good time imagining that this is the year things change, and playing around with what things I would want that to be the case for. And then committing to being a part of that changing.

I'm not a big new year's resolution guy, but maybe I am this year? Fitness, success in business, minimizing plastics in our home, taking the kids on fun trips. Let's do it. Whether a year is a real thing or not, our commitment and dedication and energy and excitement is real! So I'm going to run with it.
