Hey, friend!I did it! I wrote an issue of the Tighten newsletter. It's weird, writing over there... as me, but also as Tighten, in a medium I've been writing so casually in for so long. When I write this newsletter, I just type it and hit "Save". But when I wrote that one, I had to go back umpteen times to consider how people would feel about that one line, whether I was being too spicy or too inconsiderate... and then once I made those edits, was I being too wordy? Explaining too much? Geez. I'm proud of what I wrote, but I missed this space. Anyway, I wanted to get you a copy, even if you're not subscribed to the Tighten newsletter, so you can see what I'm working on over there, so here's a super secret private link: What is lowercase-a agile, and why does it matter? Other than that... I've met with about a half dozen business owners over the last two months, and one topic has come up every time: "Matt, do you like your job?" I think they're all asking because I talk about what's hard about it, and how different it is from my job in the past. I'm happy to say that my answer has been, every time: "As long
as Tighten is making money, I love my job." Of course, I'd love to be able to separate my happiness from the success of my business, and I can work on that, but it's still a huge joy to have almost completely shifted jobs over the last two years, and realize: I really do love my job. In my conversation today, the other business owner reminded me of just how good we have it. We're remote information workers! We're not physically worn by our work. We're running healthy companies, so we're not working 90-120 hours a week. I see my kids before and after school, hang out with them every night and put them to bed. I'm one lucky freaking dude.
