Hey, friend!

I knew wedding planning would be a lot.

I especially knew that planning an entire wedding ourselves in under six months would be a lot.

What I didn't realize is that the hardest part about planning a wedding isn't the work... it's other people.

My son is actively dealing with an issue at school right now where his groupmates in a group project aren't doing what they're supposed to, so he's left waiting on them, and then he got in trouble with the teacher for not doing anything.

In some ways, wedding planning feels a bit like that. We've relied on folks (our first/former wedding coordinator, to give one strong example–the venue requires we use a day-of coordinator, so we had to hire one against our desires) who didn't do what they were supposed to do, and that's added stress and cost and time to the whole ordeal.

We'll get there. We'll make it. My goal is to get the vast majority of the planning (95%+) done by the end of the year so we have the entire month of January to chill before the February wedding. But it's a reminder to me to be grateful for how I've been able to surround myself with capable, productive, hard working, kind folks at Tighten; that I don't have to deal with this "group projects suck because other people suck" experience that my son is experiencing at school and that Imani & I are experiencing in wedding planning.

Also–if you think of us, send us a little bit of prayers, good energy, love, or whatever else you can send. We're working as hard as we can to avoid letting this planning process exhaust us and keep us from the joy of anticipating our wedding, honeymoon, and marriage.

In case you worry... I'm so excited to be married to this woman. She's an absolute dream and I'm the luckiest freaking human on the planet. I feel this every day. I'm excited for our honeymoon. I'm excited for the wedding day. I am more hopeful and excited and generally positive than I've been for a very, very, very long time, and it's stayed this way for years at this point. This is a good, good time.

In other news, I have two new projects up my sleeves! Now that Laravel: Up and Running 3rd edition is released, and my Laracasts series on Valet is released, I've got two more big plans I'll be sharing about over the next few months. Don't worry, you'll hear about them here first. First hint: One's video, and one's written.
