Hey, friend!

It's summer, around here! Kids are done with school, and I was steeling myself for months and months of wildness until I looked up and realized... their school starts again seven weeks from today. That's actually not that much.

We're going to attempt a trip to see my family. 11 hours (without stops), 730 miles, just me and my two kids in a truck on the interstate. 😳 This will be fun!

But no matter how nervous I am about that trip, I'm most excited about the world becoming a little bit more normal again. I flew to Chicago to spend time with Dan (my business partner) and his family. Flew to Connecticut to spend time with Dave, our head of client services. Going out with friends to restaurants. My kids aren't vaccinated, so it's not life-as-usual yet, but this is still a level of freedom I definitely didn't expect to see so soon.

It feels like letting out a little bit of a collective breath. Almost like when Trump lost. There's so much anxiety we've all been holding over these last few years. Just ask anyone who's a therapist; they'll tell you most of their clients are going through it.

I stumbled across the image above and it's felt very much like what life has been for many of us lately.

So. May you, in a place where it's summer or not, see life return a little bit back to normal. May your stress relent a little, your trauma be healed, your anxiety be lessened. May we all get to breathe a bit more.

  • Every family has that totally unhinged uncle. In white families he’s usually racist & misogynist & often a few other ist’s. Funny that, in the software industry, we have one too, but dude literally *appointed* himself uncle? Of his own volition? Like a self fulfilling prophecy?

  • I *strongly* suggest anyone in your 30s/40s who hasn't seen a therapist at least try it--ESPECIALLY if you have depression, anxiety, any "disorders" like ADHD/ASD, or if you've had a hard time at all this past year. Don't know how to find one? https://youtube.com/watch?v=Kal4H4ceTNw… /@mijustin

  • Even better: we had both! We were taught about how relationships were *supposed* to be by Josh Harris who was like 16yo, & that was: Don't date; just find the person God wants you to marry & then "date" & marry them. I'm 36 & have basically never dated in my life.
  • I've always wanted an easy way to say "show me only the routes matching this pattern", and I love how this package makes your route list look, so I PR'ed a quick syntax: php artisan route:pretty --only-path=pattern You already could exclude matching paths, too. Love it!

That's it for now!

Until next time...
